Deforestation has become a major environmental challenge facing the world since the 20th century. Ghana, like many other tropical countries particularly in Africa, Asia and South America, continues to lose her forest cover through unsustainable practices of forest use and destruction. Between 1900 and 1990 it was estimated that about 80% of Ghana’s forest cover (8m ha – 1.6m ha) was lost.

This study was undertaken to investigate the quality of groundwater in selected communities in the Ahanta West District in Western Region. The inhabitants of the district depend largely on groundwater sources; hand-dug wells and boreholes for their water needs including drinking.

The Tarkwa-Nsuem Municipality has been one of the most heavily mined localities in Ghana and the continent. Despite its significant contribution to the Ghanaian economy, the industry has been associated with a number of socio-economic, health and environmental challenges.

Biological control of water fern, Salvinia molesta was studied in concrete tanks of area 4m2 each at the insectary of the Department of Animal Biology and Conservation Science (DABCS), University of Ghana, Legon and Jewi Wharf in the Western Region.

Of much concern to global efforts to achieving socio-economic development and environmental quality ideals is the cost of natural disasters on such strives arising from man-made triggers. About 3.3 billion and 5 billion people of the world’s population was projected to live in urban areas by 2008 and 2030, respectively, and with much of the contribution from developing countries especially in Asia and Africa as predicted by United Nations Population Fund.
