2012 IESS - Assessment of Heavy Metals and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (Pahs) in Air Particulates on Accra-Tema Motorway in the Greater Accra Region, Ghana

Particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter less than 10 11m (PMIO), Black Carbon (BC), Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Ni, Co, Cd, Cu, V, Mn, Cr, Na, Mg, As, Fe, Ca) concentration levels along the Accra - Tema motorway were assessed in this work. This study sought to use the EPA regulations to identify suitable landfill site in GAMA. In the process, it looked at why the existing landfills hardly follow standard norms for siting landfill, spatial distribution and state of existing landfills and examines the perceived health impact of existing landfill sites on residents in close proximity

2012 IESS - A Comparative Study of the Environmental Impact of Waste Dumpsite in Selected Rural and Peri-Urban Communities in Greater Accra

The study was carried out on dumpsite soils from two peri-urban (Dodowa and Boi) and two rural (Doryumu and Kordiabe) communities in the Greater Accra Region Ghana. The main objective of this study was to determine the concentration of selected physicochemical properties of open dumpsite soils, waste composition and the potential environmental impact of dumpsites in peri-urban and rural areas.
