Formalizing the informal waste collectors is essential in addressing the challenges of informal waste pickers and the need to make room for civic participation in waste management is pivotal in mobilizing external efforts for both the informal waste sector and Municipal Assemblies. The CSO Engagement, which is part of the LIRA Project aimed at meeting the following objectives including rallying the contributions of CSOs on supports that can be extended to the waste sector, enable synergies that will continuously and systematically build the capacities of MMDAs to lead the process of recognizing, integrating and organizing the informal waste sectors as part of the MSWM system and to create awareness on the contributions of informal waste workers to sustainable waste management.
