Send-off Party in Honour of Prof. Chris Gordon

The Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies (IESS) held a send-off, dubbed ‘Kenkey Party’ in honour of Prof. Chris Gordon. The party, which took place on December 18 at the forecourt of the Denmark House, University of Ghana was to celebrate and honour him for his achievements, contributions and wish him well as he retires from active service.

Prof. Gordon is the founding director of IESS, a position he held until July 2018. He is a celebrated environmental scientist with immense passion. Prof. Gordon has been at the forefront in spearheading the enviable progress of IESS and has been a great mentor to many, including many of the staff of the Institute.

His mentees and staff expressed great appreciations for his instrumental role as they took turns to share their experiences and memories under his tutelage. They described him as a man whose ‘bark is worse than his bite’ in relation to his mentorship and personal development skills, and initiatives.

Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufmann of the Department of Physics and quiz mistress of the National Maths and Science Quiz also appreciated Prof. Gordon particularly for his role in the academic and personal development of her daughter. She noted that her first encounter with Prof. was during a Board meeting where she was impressed with his intelligent contributions.

Prof. Chris on his part entreated the staff to continue working harder and more efficiently. He was also presented with a gift from the Institute

In attendance was the Director of the Institute, Prof. Kwasi Appeaning Addo who chaired the ceremony, the Administrator, Mr. Peter K. Osei-Fosu, staff of the Institute and the family of Prof. Gordon. 

Dr. Ted Annang was the Master of Ceremony (MC).
