Prof. K Appeaning Addo appointed High Level Panel (HLP) Member

The Director of the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies (IESS) of the University of Ghana, Prof. Kwasi Appeaning Addo, has been appointed a member of the Expert Group of the High Level Panel (HLP) for a Sustainable Ocean Economy.

The HLP aims at building a new shared understanding of the current and potential future state of Ocean economy and ecology, and generate a set of policy, governance, technology and investment solutions aimed at catalysing a truly Sustainable Ocean Economy.

It is made up of 14 Heads of Government with support from the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for the Ocean. The Heads of Government consist of Australia, Canada, Chile, Fiji, Ghana, Indonesia, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Namibia, Norway, Mexico, Palau and Portugal.

Prof. Addo who is an Associate Professor in Coastal Processes and Delta Studies is also a Co-Lead Author for one of the 15 chapter Blue Papers which are central in producing the HLP's Summary of Recommendations on the Blue Economy which will serve as the basis for making the case for change and call for international action for the short, medium and long term.
