Prof. Gordon receives an Honorary Award

We congratulate Prof. Christopher Gordon on the receipt of an Honorary Award from the Ghana Chamber of Mines. Prof. Gordon was awarded during the 7th Mining Industry Awards held at the Accra Marriott Hotel on Friday, November 19 2021. The award is in recognition of his outstanding role in promoting environmentally sustainable and responsible mining in Ghana.

A section of the Award notification reads ‘‘the 7th Ghana Mining Industry Awards wishes to present an honorary award to you for your sterling contribution to environmentally sustainable and responsible mining in Ghana .Additionally, you have continued to support the industry in diverse ways with your research and advocacy in support of various institutions and companies to improve their environmental management systems’’

 

Prof. Gordon is an astute Environmental Scientist and academic consultant with experience spanning over three decades. He has worked with several international bodies including GEF, UNEP, FAO, UNDP, DFID, IDRC, DGIS and served as expert on several institutional, project review and think tank boards such as the UNEP Foresight Expert Group, World Climate Science Programme, the Scientific and Technical Review Panel of the Ramsar Convention, Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) Technical Committee, International Standards Organisation (ISO) Working Group for the revision of ISO 14015 and the Earth Commission. He has over 100 scientific publications including Journal articles, Book Chapters and Commissioned Research reports.

He is the recipient of several national awards and honours including the Order of the Star of Volta Medal in 2016 for his services to Ghana's development. Prof. Chris Gordon is the Founding Father of the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies (IESS) of the University of Ghana.
