Official Launch of ARF NWO-funded project - Utilization of Organic Waste to Improve Agricultural Productivity (UOWAP) - in Ga-West Municipality

The launch of an ARF NWO-funded project named Utilization of Organic Waste to Improve Agricultural Productivity (UOWAP) in the Ga-West Municipality was recently held at the EPA Conference room in Amasaman, Greater Accra, Ghana. The partners involved in the project are the MDF West Africa, Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies (IESS), Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) and the Ga-West Municipal Assembly.

The goal of the project is to improve food security and livelihoods of urban poor through the development of sustainable waste management systems and utilization of organic foods. The project also aims to train farmers and unemployed youth in compost making and utilization.

The project was officially launched by the Planning Officer of the Ga-West Municipality on behalf of the MunicipalChief Executive (MCE).  The MCE in his address expressed his commitment to the support of this project.   Each of the partners addressed the participants and stated their expectations of the project. This led to an interactive discussion between the partners and participants. The meeting wasattended by various stakeholders including Farmers, Food Processors, Assembly Members, Market Women and other interested parties.
