Professor Chris Gordon of the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies (IESS), University of Ghana, has been appointed Chairman of the National Disaster Management Organisation’s (NADMO) Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Technical Committee. The Committee brings together experts from government, academia, development partners and other institutions to provide technical guidance and evidence-based recommendations to strengthen climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction and resilience-building efforts in Ghana. Prof. Gordon was unanimously nominated to chair the Committee in recognition of his expertise and vast experience. Under his leadership, the Committee will help review emerging climate and disaster risks, assess ongoing interventions, promote climate-resilient approaches and strengthen collaboration among relevant institutions. The Committee will meet quarterly and will also advise NADMO and other relevant institutions on policies, planning and interventions related to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. Prof. Gordon’s appointment further demonstrates IESS’ contribution to national efforts to address climate change, environmental risks and sustainable development in Ghana.
