UGPRP, Fan Milk and Decathlon mark World Cleanup Day

07 October 2019

The University of Ghana Plastic Recycling Project (UGPRP) joined Fan Milk Ghana Limited and Decathlon, a sportswear company to embark on a beach clean-up exercise at the COCO Beach, Nungua on September 21, the World Clean Up Day.

A team of thirty-five (35) volunteers from the three organisations and residents from the Nungua neighbourhood participated in beach cleanup that saw the clearing of plastic and other waste materials from the beach. Various forms of plastics including sachets, spoons, bottles and caps, polybags, disposable cups and other waste materials such as clothes, glass and aluminum cans were collected.

The session was spiced up with music and aerobics, and a variety of games including volleyball and soccer. Media houses such as United Television (UTV) and Atinka FM were also present to cover the event.

The UGPRP team is fully committed to mitigating the problems posed by plastic waste through waste segregation, education and awareness creation and advocacy for a circular economy.
