Francis Awaafo Akugre

PhD Environmental Science (2019/2020)


Mr. Francis Awaafo Akugre is a first year PhD (Environmental Science) student at the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies, University of Ghana. He holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in Climate Change and Sustainable Development from University of Ghana and a bachelor’s degree in Environment and Resource Management from the University for Development Studies, Tamale. Mr. Akugre’s research is in climate change adaptation and mitigation with particular focus on issues relating to climate change and; food security, health, energy, biodiversity, urban resilience (resilient cities) and how governance (at both local and national levels) influence adaptation.

Mr. Akugre previously worked as a student researcher on the Adaptation at Scale in Semi-Arid Regions (ASSAR), a multi-institutional and multi-scale project that combined interdisciplinary research, capacity building and stakeholder engagement to improve the understanding of the barriers and enablers to effective climate change adaptation in the Lawra and Nandom Districts of the Upper West Region of Ghana. or
